The Carp Slam is the major annual event of Denver Trout Unlimited. It is an internationally recognized tournament to catch and release carp in the South Platte River as it flows from Chatfield Reservoir through the city of Denver, Colorado. 15 teams consisting of a professional and an amateur angler compete with artificial flies to catch and land this elusive, skittish, and highly intelligent fish. Landing one of these fish, that can go to 30 inches and weigh 18 pounds, can take a skilled angler 45 minutes. Talk a sponsor into kicking $500 towards the tournament and you could join, too!
All proceeds from the silent auction and sponsors go towards cleanup and maintenance of the Platte River. Denver Trout Unlimited has partnered with The Greenway Foundation, The Overland Park Neighborhood Association and other organizations to develop and secure funding for approximately two miles of Urban South Platte restoration. The project will focus on stretches at Grant Frontier Park, Pasquinel’s Landing and Overland Park. The primary objectives of these projects is to restore water quality, habitat and recreation areas, as well as to reconnect Denver Metro residents to the river
Sponsors of the 2018 Carp Slam earn distinction based upon the amount that they donate. Carp Slam’s title sponsorship has already been sold (sponsored by:…)! However, several other levels of sponsorship are available, including the ‘acre foot’ sponsorship, which involves having a 1-acre foot area of water on the Platte being purchased by your very own company! There is no better way to increase your company’s standing in the community while simultaneously getting your name out there for your own marketing purposes. Whether you own a fly shop, law firm, or landscaping business this could be an incredible donorship opportunity. Better yet, these donations are all tax deductible. Get those philanthropic juices flowing and get to donating.
The Carp Slam has already raised tens of thousands of dollars for restoration along the Platte. Trout populations have rebounded significantly, shorelines have recovered, and the overland park area in particular had made a huge comeback. Further recovery will allow the Platte to become an even better sport fishing destination, hopefully challenging the gold rated waters of the mountains that it once did in the old days. Whether you are a fisherman in search of fame and glory, or a company looking for a great local marketing opportunity, the Carplsam is the event for you!
On the night of September 8th, starting at 7pm, join the Carp Slam participants and organizers for a night of live music, food, beer, and wine on Denver’s Davita Rooftop. Tickets come in at only 35 dollars in advance and 45 at the door. Proceeds from this event, too, of course go towards watershed improvements within the Denver metro area. What better way to do good than to join in on a rooftop party with live music?
Whether you may be in it for the party, for the fishing, or to support the community, the Carp Slam has something for everybody. It is not too late, so go online at carpslam.org and get involved in one of Denver’s coolest events today!
