Green Mountain Reservoir Fly Fishing

FLY FISHING IN GREEN MOUNTAIN RESERVOIR

Green Mountain Reservoir is an under pressured fishery located by Heeney, Colorado, a blip on the radar compared to most of Summit County’s towns. This epic fishery offers esox, trout, as well as salmon, and can be fished year-round with open water season running from April or late March well into November and sometimes December. The reservoir is very deep and can pose an issue for much of the wading opportunity; this is a dilemma for some as these steep shelfs are ideal trout ambushing pray. This water is best fished near incoming tributaries by boat with a slow moving streamer fished deep.

About Green Mountain Reservoir

Green Mountain Reservoir is a fair sized reservoir located just inside of Summit County. Although the physical address is Silverthorne, you feel a world away from the modern amenities the rest of the county offers, which is a good thing if you are looking for a quick getaway. This beautiful body of water is nestled into the foothills of the Gore Range and hosts Brook, Rainbow, Brown, and Hybrid Trout as well as Kokanee Salmon. In addition to the reservoir itself, the Blue River located under the dam is an amazing fishery with big grizzled trout earning its name, “Jurassic Park”. This epic location is only thirty minutes off of I-70 north of Silverthorne, and you don’t want to miss the peace and quiet of this sleeper of a trout lake.
